Target Audience

Employees

The primary audience includes all employees within an organization. This platform aims to engage, motivate, and connect them with their peers.

Challenges

Employee Engagement

The platform needs to address the challenge of low employee engagement and motivation within the organization. Encouraging employees to actively recognize their peers and participate in the reward system and surveys can be challenging.

Measuring Impact

Demonstrating the platform's impact on employee satisfaction, retention, and overall company culture is essential. Providing metrics and analytics tools to HR professionals is crucial to measure success.

Insights from User Research

To begin, we chose to prioritize the employee platform as our initial focus. To explore the problems, we chose to initiate discussions with 5 individuals.

Mobile Accessibility

Participants stressed the importance of having a mobile-responsive platform that allows access on-the-go.

Persona & User Journey Map

The communication with the participants helped us create the personas. We also narrowed our scope to mobile views first because most often the participants  prefers using their mobile devices for various tasks due to the convenience and familiarity of mobile apps and responsive websites.

Mapping David's user journey helps in deciding which features should be developed first and which can be added later.

Competitor Analysis

In addition to conducting user interviews, we also conducted extensive research on our competitors - Kazoo, Bonusly and Recognize. This competitive research aimed to gain insights into features and user experiences offered by similar platforms in the employee engagement space.

01

All three platforms offer similar core features such as points-based systems, feedback functionality, rewards and redemption options, and peer-to-peer recognition. This indicates that these features are essential in employee engagement platforms.

02

Kazoo stands out with its robust gamification features, extensive integration options, and strong analytics capabilities. This suggests that Kazoo may be suitable for organizations looking for a comprehensive solution with advanced customization and data-driven insights.

03

Bonusly excels in simplicity and ease of use, focusing on peer-to-peer recognition and creating a social media-like interface. This indicates that Bonusly may be a preferred choice for organizations seeking a user-friendly and interactive platform that promotes a positive and collaborative work environment.

Features Prioritization

For Phase 1 of our project, we have discussed the feature priorities with our clients and have identified the "must have" features that will be our primary focus. While focusing on the "must have" features for Phase 1, we also acknowledge the following "nice to have" features that can be considered for future iterations.

Must have

  • User profile

  • Peer-to-peer recognition

  • Earning points

  • Redeeming e-coupons

  • Anonymous feedbacks & surveys

  • Leaderboard

Nice to have

  • Physical reward

  • Gamification

  • Company events

  • Learning centre

  • Competition

  • Learning centre

Flow Chart & Wireframes

After confirming the features, I started to work on the wireframes. Through research on other competitors and my previous experience working on AIA One, another employee app, we found that dispatching rewards such as points or e-coupons instantly to participants' accounts can increase response rates. Additionally, allowing anonymous feedback can create a safe space for employees to share their opinions without fear of judgment or retribution. By implementing these strategies, companies can gather more accurate and honest feedback, which can lead to better decision-making and improved employee satisfaction.

User Feedbacks & Revisions

After completing the UI design, I created a prototype and shared with users and stakeholders for their feedback. Engaging in discussions with both stakeholders and users, we carefully considered their comments and incorporated necessary adjustments into the design. This process ensured that the final design was refined and aligned with the needs and expectations of all parties involved.

For Example:

Leaderboard

Instead of showing the results for all employees, we changed to display the top 3 individuals who have received the most recognitions. This approach allows us to highlight and celebrate the achievements of the top performers, while also respecting the privacy of those who may not have received any recognitions at the moment.

Portal

Apart from working on employee platforms, I also developed an admin portal where administrators can manage staff, edit surveys and rewards, and access reports to support company decision-making.
